These custom leather covered canteens are another throw-back to an actual ancient necessity. The original product was likely a hollowed out gourd, or even an eggshell. The Bota bag was often a goatskin, and the wine bag was probably the closest relative, as it was made from leather. Our Leather Covered Canteens start with an aluminum one quart scout canteen, and then we build a leather jacket. We make them so that the canteen can be removed from the enclosure; this is convenient when filling, or replacing the canteen. Our Leather Covered Canteen is another totally customizable item. We have made them with association logos, personal initials, or- like the one shown- basket weave. They are usually fitted with a strap (not shown) attached, which can be a fixed length (standard), or have a buckle, making it an adjustable length. These could hang conveniently over your saddle horn, or around your neck, if you choose.
Canteens are a real necessity if you are riding for any length of time at all. Some competitions actually require a leather covered canteen as part of your tack. Either way, we would be happy to build one especially to your specifications. Want one to match your saddle? What about a gift? What else gives you the look, feel and durability of leather? This is a fantastic addition to your tack, or a great gift idea!
